To set up a TikTok Shop in the US, sign up in TikTok Shop Seller Center, pick your seller type, and verify your ID and business. Once TikTok approves you, add your tax form and bank account, set up shipping, list your first product, and link your official TikTok account.
Our TikTok Shop agency has set up and managed US TikTok Shops since 2024, and our brand partners have generated more than $43 million in GMV in the last 12 months.
We have put that experience into this guide so you can avoid the document rejections and shipping errors that stall new shops. This guide covers what you need to open a TikTok Shop, the setup steps, common mistakes, and what to do after launch.

TikTok Shop Setup Requirements
Gather these before you open Seller Center. TikTok checks every name, date, and address you type against your documents.
Eligibility Requirements
To sell on TikTok Shop in the US, you must:
- Be 18 or older. For a business, every owner and representative must be 18 or older.
- Live in the US. A business needs a primary business address in the US.
- Hold a valid US passport or passport card, driver’s license, state ID, or Permanent Resident Card.
You don’t need followers or a website. Governments, politicians, and political parties can’t register.
Documents And Details
| What you need | Individual | Business |
|---|---|---|
| Photo ID | Yes | Yes, for the primary representative |
| Proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, insurance policy, or credit card bill) | Yes | Yes |
| Last 4 digits of your SSN or ITIN | Yes | Yes, for the primary representative |
| EIN | No | Yes |
| Details for each ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) | No | Corporations and partnerships |
| Form W-9 | Yes | Yes |
| US bank account | In your legal name | In the business name |
Upload each file as a PDF, JPG, or PNG under 10 MB. Show the whole document, shot straight on. It must be valid and unedited.
Email And Phone Number
Use a phone number and email that aren’t tied to another TikTok Shop account or a TikTok for Business account, such as Ads Manager. If either one is, Seller Center shows “Account already exists.” TikTok recommends a business email. You also can’t sign up with a TikTok Organization Account.
TikTok Shop Fees
Registering is free. When an order is completed, TikTok takes a referral fee:
- 6% on most categories
- 5% on select fine jewelry, such as diamond, gold, and platinum, and on most pre-owned categories
- 3% on the part of a pre-owned or collectibles sale above $10,000
Your other costs are the commission you pay affiliate creators, shipping, and fulfillment fees if you use Fulfilled by TikTok.
8 Steps To Set Up A TikTok Shop
Step 1: Sign Up In Seller Center
This is where you create your TikTok Shop account. You can use a desktop browser or the TikTok Shop Seller Center app.
- Open the US sign-up page.
- Sign up with a phone number or email, your TikTok account, TikTok for Business, Google, or Apple.
- If you used a phone number or email, enter the code TikTok sends you. Then set a password of 6 to 20 characters.
- Choose the United States as your region.
- Accept the terms. Enter an invitation code only if you have one.
Note: The region you select is permanent. Switching it later means a new application.
Step 2: Pick Your Seller Type
TikTok offers three seller types in the US. Pick the one that matches your legal setup today. TikTok says business and personal information can’t be changed after you submit.
Individual
For people who sell under their own name and have no EIN. Sole proprietors without an EIN also register here.
Sole Proprietorship
For one owner running an unincorporated business with an EIN. You register the business and act as its primary representative.
Corporation Or Partnership
For a business that exists as a legal entity separate from its owners, or one run by two or more partners. You add details for each ultimate beneficial owner, plus your parent company’s name and location if you have one.
Business seller types also face a stricter rule when they link a TikTok account.
Step 3: Submit Your ID And Business Documents
Type your details exactly as they appear on your documents:
- Everyone: legal name, date of birth, residential address, ID expiration date, and the last 4 digits of your SSN or ITIN
- Businesses: legal business name, EIN, registered business address, and owner details
Then upload your ID and proof of address. If your ID has no expiration date, enter 00-00-0000.
US rules require your business address on your product pages. If you enter your home address, tick Certify and TikTok shows only part of it.
Step 4: Name Your Shop And Add Your Addresses
Your shop name is public. TikTok blocks the words “flagship” and “official,” and names made only of numbers or special characters. You can change the name later.
Then add:
- A primary product category. TikTok uses it for registration only. It doesn’t limit what you sell.
- A contact person and phone number.
- Your warehouse or pickup address. TikTok checks it against USPS address standards.
- A return address. You can reuse the warehouse address.
On the review page, a green checkmark means a detail passed. A yellow caution symbol means it needs a fix or a supporting document. You can submit once your legal name, date of birth, residential address, and SSN verify.
TikTok doesn’t publish an approval time. If your TikTok Shop registration fails, TikTok emails you the steps to resubmit. You can upload products while you wait. They stay hidden until verification is complete.
Note: TikTok reviews documents within several business days. Each request for more information pauses the review until you reply, so answer the same day.
Step 5: Add Your Tax Form And Bank Account
After TikTok verifies your documents, finish two tasks on the Seller Center home page:
- Tax form: complete Form W-9. The taxpayer name and number must match your other documents.
- Bank account: select Link Bank Account, then Link Account. Enter your account name, bank name, and account number, then select Submit.
The account name must match your registered name as an individual, or your company name as a business. TikTok pays your sales into this account.
Step 6: Set Up Shipping
Go to Logistics > Warehouse & shipping in Seller Center. Here you manage your warehouses and pick how you ship. US sellers have three options.
Upgraded TikTok Shipping
This is the TikTok Shop default. TikTok assigns it to your shop automatically during setup. You store and pack orders at your own warehouse. You can also register your warehouse for Collections by TikTok, where the TikTok carrier picks up orders from you.
Seller Shipping
You pick the carrier from 80+ providers TikTok supports, including USPS, UPS, FedEx, and Amazon Shipping. You must:
- Build a shipping template before you list products: Choose the warehouse, the states you deliver to, and a rate type: weight-based, quantity-based, or flat rate. States you leave out are marked undeliverable.
- Upload valid tracking within your handling time: Missing or wrong tracking makes you responsible for the losses and penalties.
- Deliver on time: Express orders must arrive within 3 business days and Standard orders within 6, with at least 95% on time.
TikTok announced it would end Seller Shipping in February 2026, then reversed the decision after seller pushback.
Fulfilled By TikTok
You send inventory to the TikTok Shop warehouses, and TikTok stores, packs, and ships each order. Each inbound shipment gets 60 days of free storage. Eligible products get a “Free 3-Day Delivery” tag in search and recommendations.
Shipping templates that fail the TikTok Shop logistics check are one of the most common reasons a launch stalls. This is why we build each template around your real shipping cost for each product weight and size.
Step 7: List Your First Product
TikTok Shop setup flow in the US asks you to upload at least one product. After you publish, a product shows as “Reviewing” until TikTok approves it. Check the TikTok restricted products policy first. Some categories, such as beauty, supplements, and children’s products, need approval before you can list.
Add Products One At A Time
Go to Products > Add Products on desktop or in the Seller Center app. Pick the most specific category, then add the title, images, price, stock, and package weight and dimensions. Weigh and measure the packed product, because these numbers set the shipping cost.
Bulk Upload With A Template
On desktop, go to Products > Manage Products > Bulk Action > Bulk listing. Download a template for each product category. Fill in the required fields and upload the file (5 MB maximum). Fix any errors the pre-check flags, then select Publish Now. Each product can hold up to 100 SKUs.
Sync From Shopify Or Another Store
Install the TikTok for Shopify app to sync products, inventory, prices, and orders between Shopify and TikTok Shop. You can switch off product info, inventory, or price sync in the app’s shop settings. If you already listed products in Seller Center, you must match each one to its Shopify SKU before setup finishes.
From our setups: we also connect BigCommerce and WooCommerce stores with live stock sync, so a creator video that sells fast doesn’t oversell your inventory. Set up variants such as size and color under one product the first time. Rebuilding them after your first sales takes extra work.
Step 8: Link Your Official TikTok Account
Your official account is the TikTok account that represents your shop. You need it to tag products in your videos and send viewers to your shop.
- In Seller Center, go to My account > Settings > Linked TikTok Accounts, or open the Seller Center app.
- Create a new Organization Account, or scan the QR code to authorize an existing account.
TikTok Shop Linking Rules:
- One official account per shop, plus up to 4 marketing accounts
- The account name must match your shop name, and the account region must match your shop region
- The account must pass identity verification first
- TikTok converts the account to a Business Account once it’s linked
- You can change the official account up to three times, and you can unlink only 24 hours after linking
From July 1, 2026, sole proprietorships, corporations, and partnerships must use an Organization Account when they link a new official account or relink one. Individual sellers are exempt. A personal account that’s already linked stays linked unless you unlink it. Sign-up in step 1 still doesn’t accept an Organization Account.
Common TikTok Shop Setup Mistakes
In our setups, most delays happen between document verification and the first product going live. Each stall costs a week. Watch for these five.
Picking The Wrong Seller Type
Once you submit, you can only change your seller type through the TikTok Shop entity change process. It only allows these changes:
- Sole proprietorship → corporation
- Sole proprietorship → partnership
- Corporation → partnership
- Partnership → corporation
While the change is in progress:
- Your shop goes into Holiday Mode and can’t make sales.
- Your funds are frozen until 24 hours after the change is approved.
- Brand approvals and some category approvals are reset, and your bank account is unlinked.
- You’ll need a novation agreement signed by both entities and dated within the last three months.
Note: Individual sellers can’t change entity type at all.
Name Mismatches
This is one of the most common stalls in our setups. TikTok compares your name across your ID, proof of address, W-9, and bank account. Before you submit, check that your name is spelled the same way on all four.
Wrong Product Category
Category decides which searches a product appears in and which approval rules apply. In our setups, products filed under a broad or wrong category show up in fewer searches. Pick the most specific category TikTok offers.
Shipping Template Errors
With Seller Shipping, you can’t list products until a template exists. Three errors block or remove listings:
- Leaving out states, which marks them undeliverable
- Setting a fee outside the TikTok Shop allowed range, which blocks you from saving the template
- Keeping an old fee that goes over the range, which triggers a 7-day warning and then product deactivation
Listing Policy Flags
TikTok reviews every listing. In our setups, flags usually come from the title and bullet points: claims your category restricts, terms the FDA flags, and images that break the TikTok rules. Check each listing against the TikTok Shop prohibited products policy and restricted products policy before you publish.
What To Do After Your Shop Is Live
Use these four ways to get your first orders.
Set Up The Affiliate Program
In the TikTok Shop affiliate program, creators promote your products in their videos and earn a commission on each sale. In Seller Center, you choose one or more plans:
- Open Plan: A single commission rate that any approved creator can find and promote. You can add an approval step.
- Target Plan: A rate for creators you invite.
- Shop Plan: Flat rate across your whole catalog.
Most sellers set commissions between 5% and 20%. We helped COCOL go from $0 to $132,000 in monthly GMV in 4 months. All of it came from affiliates and creators, with no paid ads.
Send Free Samples To Creators
Creators request free samples of your products, and you choose who gets one. Send samples to creators who post in your category and have sold similar products before. For L.O.C Astrology, we shipped 5 to 7 samples a day to creators with a strong category fit. Creators posted 50 to 70 videos a day in return.
Post Shoppable Videos
When you post from your official account or a linked marketing account, tag the product in the video. Viewers tap the tag and buy without leaving TikTok. Film the product in use so viewers see what it does.
Run GMV Max Ads
Since July 2025, GMV Max is the only campaign type for new TikTok Shop ads. You can no longer create Product Shopping Ads, Video Shopping Ads, or LIVE Shopping Ads. You pick the products and set a target ROI. GMV Max creates and pauses ads, picks your best videos, and sets the audience. It can run authorized affiliate videos that feature your products, so the creator videos from the steps above become your ads. You can create a campaign in Seller Center.

TikTok Shop Setup FAQs
Can you set up a TikTok Shop without a business?
Yes. Register as an Individual seller. You need a US ID, the last 4 digits of your SSN or ITIN, proof of address, a W-9, and a bank account in your name. You don’t need an EIN.
Do you need followers to set up a TikTok Shop?
No. TikTok has no follower requirement for sellers. Follower minimums are part of the TikTok Shop affiliate requirements for creators.
Can you set up a TikTok Shop on your phone?
Yes. You can make a TikTok Shop account in the TikTok Shop Seller Center app. The app also lets you add products, fulfill orders, and handle returns. Bulk product uploads work only on desktop.
Can you connect Shopify to TikTok Shop?
Yes. Install the TikTok for Shopify app, which syncs products, inventory, prices, and orders between the two stores.
Why isn’t my TikTok Shop showing on my profile?
Check three things. Your TikTok account must be linked in Seller Center as the official account or a marketing account. Your products must be live, and they stay hidden until verification is complete and each listing passes review. Linking also fails if the account name doesn’t match your shop name or the account hasn’t passed identity verification.
